What is WP Plugins Tracker and How does it Work ?

It simply grabs every Plugin and its version and compares them against the WP-Plugins-DB. If it finds some updates you’ll see it and get at the same time a link to the URL of the Plugin where you can grab your latest copy of this Plugin

How to Install WP Plugins Tracker

Download the Plugin from wp-plugins-db.org unzip and upload the Plugin to your Wordpress Plugin folder. After you activated the Plugin a New Tab is created called WP Plugins Tracker within the top menu, if you like you can switch that tab to an Subtab of Plugins. When you click the Tab you’ll get such a page(it can take some time while, depending on the amount of Plugins you use and how much traffic the database have currently):

It will display if the Version is the latest or if there’s a newer one available. For most Plugins you get as well the Link to the Plugins page. If this isn’t the case take a look at the WP Plugins page to see if there’s a link for the Plugin, if it isn’t visit the wp-plugins-db.org Website and search for that Plugin if you’re lucky it’s found within the Database and you’ll get the Link to the Pluginpage or the download URL. The Plugin even shows in the same way as WP does it itself if the Plugin is currently activated or not.

Dependencies and known Issues

It runs mostly as Webservice so no dependencies are needed, but as soon as the Website should be unavailable you can’t check for the latest Versions of your Plugins.

In the End...

A nice and fast way to check if your blog runs with the latest Plugins. But the data is inserted manually so it may not be 100% upto date and some plugins may be available with a newer version, but the database will not show that to you. But as you can contribute you can inform them about new Plugin version so you can help to contribute to this community and at the same time you profit from it as well.
