This Plugin was originally created by Christopher Hwang. But as it seems that this is abandoned it’s now maintained by Roland Rust.
How does WP PHpMyAdmin Work ?
It adds the Webmysql Interface phpMyAdmin to your Wordpress install. When you visit phpMyAdmin from within Wordpress you’re logged in automatically to your database. But be aware that you only will have the possibilities and access to databases as your WP Database account holds.
So unless you’re not using the root account of MySQL you will mostly not be able to see all tables within your MySQL server nor you’ll mostly can’t perform any actions like creating new Users. Anyway it’s highly recommend not to use your root admin account to access your databases from Wordpress or any other Webapplication. Anyway if you want to perform global database changes you can log in from within Wordpress as root User as well.
How to Install Wordpress PHPMyAdmin
Download your Copy from Roland Rust website. Unzip the package and upload it. Now activate the Plugin, a new tab within Manage will be created. From this you can use phpMyAdmin as you do usual. You’ll see something like that:
Depending on your MySQL rights you can perform there various things, like creating new tables, or dropping tables, lock tables, create new User and so on. As it goes too much into deep about phpMyAdmin itself we don’t discuss the offered functions more closely.
Dependencies and Known Issues
phpMyadmin, which is delivered within the package itself.
Conclusion
It’s not wrong to have the ability to manage your databases from WP, but as this could cause even more damage if an Attacker can break into your Wordpress System we don’t really recommend the usage of this Plugin. It shouldn’t be too hard to keep one more password in mind. As well the only real usage we see for this Plugin is to Optimize the Wordpress tables. But to achieve this an simpler Plugin would be enough. If you think you need it feel free to grab it.
