Why Chitika performs so Badly on so many Website and Why it do well on few ?

I had used Chitika on this website...than it didn't performed ...so I removed it...than I again put chitika to test it..than it didn't performed ...so I removed it

Seriously, for almost 5k views, there were just couple of clicks with very little earnings. On my other sites as well, Chitika never performed well. Infact, after almost 15k+ views, I have barely earned few dollars. Considering the amount of space I devoted to it, I was expecting much better returns.

It is common belief in the webmaster circuit that chitika only performs on very limited number of sites and blogs, mostly technology though my sites are also technology and gets mostly US traffic. So I start looking at websites at DigitalPoint where few members have reported making quite a lot from chitika. So after looking at those sites(one of them was making 5k/month from chitika) - Here are some of the conclusions I come up with.

1. Chitika is only going to do well for product related sites, most likely with gadgets. I had used it on my programming site but it didn't turn well at all.
2. You better have good traffic who is looking to buy something. Traffic from digg or "curious" visitors are NOT at all going to help you in earning from chitika.
3. Chitika is a good alternative to adsense, not a replacement. All the websites which I looked at were using adsense/ypn. One more thing which I noticed is they were always using chitika big block at the bottom of post. This is a good technique as you are giving option to the visitor to go to other page to look at the product displayed by chitika after reading your article.

One more interesting thing about Chitika, I got all clicks of worth 18 cents from it Seems they have a fixed cost for every click. I hope this article helps some people who are looking to explore chitika as an option. I think its worth trying but don't waste too much space and time on it, there are other good options also.
