Virtual Dimension is a free, fast and full featured virtual desktop manager for Windows platform. The target of this project is to promote the Window Manager (of Microsoft) so that it an compete with usual Unix Window Manager, by providing virtual desktops with some more latest features, like always on top, window shading...
Firstly, you would want to know what is virtual desktop? Actually it is a desktop that is visible when you run windows: the real windows desktop, with some open and some minimized windows icons on it.This project allows to work with only some of the applications that are shown at a time. After some time, some other windows would be shown. This program allows us to get some sets of applications/windows, where we can easily choose which group is shown and switch between one group or the other.
Now the question arises what is the interest of such thing? Well,the answer is quite simple. If there are only some of the windows open at one time, there is not much interest. On the other hand, if you have to work with many applications, your desktop can get overloaded quite easily. And then you will have to waste some time to find your windows. Taskbar buttons are quite small to read the text and find the right window, using drag and drop is also not easy at this time so Virtual Dimension is the only choice for you.
FEATURES: Unlimited multiple desktops to your window environment.
1). Optional preview window which enables you to choose the desktop to switch to, and to get lots of functions.
2).Tray icon, enables simple access to many functions and it also doesnot take much space on the desktop.
3). Every desktop has its own specific settings ( wallpaper, screen saver, desktop background, themes ...)
4). A window can be moved to any desktop and also same window can stay on all desktops.
5). You can assign different names to your desktops and use a different wallpaper for each one.
6). You can also give a global hotkey to each desktop. And you can easily switch to specific desktop by just pushing a few keys.
7). Next/Previous desktop can be activated by those hotkeys.
8).You can also have the option to get an OSD (On Scree Display) whenever you switch desktop showing name of the activated desktop.
9). Pressing ALT+TAB can give the list of all windows, the list of those that are present on the current desktop.
10). You can also configure the application so that if you move your mouse to the edge of the screen, it switches automatically to the neighbouring desktop.
11). Preview window is a special tool that enables you to get the list of windows on each desktop. Context menu gives access to specific features.
12). Additionally you can minimize any window to tray and make it " Always on top", and you can make all of them patially translucent.Maximize the size of window with just one click or customizable stroke. It also enables to kill
any window.
REQUIREMENTS
The goal is to have such a program which must be portable as well as compatible. But there are some functions which cannot be available on all platform and you have to get the recent updated version of Internet Explorer.
You can expect to run the application on Windows 98/Me, NT/2000/XP, and Windows 95. However you can expect that transparency only supported on Windows 2000/XP.
