With the price of mobile phones, it’s important to perform ongoing maintenance to keep them working properly and effectively. Of course, it’s best to protect your phone from damage. Keep water and drinks away from your mobile phone and do not toss or throw it around. Cases provide added protection.
Cell phone service is constantly being updated. New towers are built, alliances are signed allowing reciprocal use of towers or purchasing usage rights for their customers and even software upgrades from your cell phone service or phone manufacturer. All major wireless providers have an easy software upgrade service, usually dialing into a number (such as Verizon’s *228) and airtime free which allows you to program your phone and update roaming capabilities. This is extremely important before you travel.
You can purchase a mobile phone maintenance kit for about $20 - $40. The typically toolkit will come in a zippered case or hard plastic carrying case for you convenience. The toolkit should have implements to be able to change faceplates, fix antennas and open up the back and replace internal components. Mobile phone repair kits usually include a combination of a few different size precision star tip drivers, security driver, torx drivers, antenna opener and/or removal tools, panel pry bar and a number of different size screws including specialty made screws for antennas. Since some of the tools are specially made for specific manufactures phones, you may need to supplement your toolkit if you get a new phone.
Cleaning your phone of dust and dirt periodically will help lessen future problems. Some parts of your phone are easily removable such as the faceplate and battery. With the right tools, most keyboards can be separated from the main part of the phone. Dust sometimes gets under the screen. You can remove the screen either with a special tool from your maintenance kit or with a pin or a sewing needle and a card (such as a credit card). It is one of the more sensitive parts, so be very careful especially when snapping back into place. You’ll need a Q-tip and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Dip the Q-tip in the alcohol and use it to clean the exposed surface of each part. Use a clean cloth to wipe the phone clean. If you use an old rag, you could subject your phone to remnants of harsh chemicals. After the cleaning, your phone will not only look super, but it will be germ free.
Your battery is an important component of your mobile phone and it needs proper maintenance. The contacts on your battery are very sensitive and a little dirt can cause them too lose good contact and significantly reduce the performance of your battery. Use a cotton swab or Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contact points. Make sure the all parts are dry before reconnecting. An eraser can also be use to clean the mobile battery. To maintain the best battery efficiently, make sure you drain your battery completely periodically and then fully charge it.
I hope you will find this mobile maintenance post helpful. As usual, comments and suggestions are welcome.
