How many times this happens to us that after downloading a huge 100+ MB file from internet, and after patiently waiting for hours, the file doesn't open as it gets corrupted while downloading
Now there is very nice(and hugely popular) media player which can play all kinds of corrupted and damaged avi files, named GOM media player.
Obviously, it can not play the frames which don't exist(which were not downloaded) but instead of giving I/O error, it just skip those frames and keeps playing avi file. Not only that, GOM media player can also play locked and partially downloaded avi files. It has many more features which you can check at its Official Site.
