I had no idea a site like Flixster exists till today when I got a "mail" from them. As per there home page, they are a social networking website where members discuss about movies. Needless to say, the site seems to be huge and popular due to obvious reasons. Movies, sports, gossip are few domains which are very easy to build on due to there universal appeal.
Anyway the post is not about this. The post is about a mail I got today from a so called Flixster member Mr. Marx Malencio. The mail said that he has sent me a PM and I should go to the site to check it with the given link. Here is the message(Click on it to see in full size)
I don't know any guy with name Marx Malencio and this is clearly a spam (unless its a forge mail) by Flixster. There are many other so called social networking websites who in the process of building quick membership, spamming others mail boxes with similar kind of messages. And really, having a note in the end of mail "If you prefer not to receive emails like this, tell us" doesn't make it less spammy. If you want quick membership, be innovative, provide a good service and people will automatically come. I hope yahoo and other email providers are watching such kind of emails from such sites.
