Today CBS Radio announced that it would combine its more than 140 online radio stations with AOL’s more than 200 radio stations. CBS is a division of CBS Corporation and AOL is part of Time Warner Inc.

CBS Radio is the second largest radio group in the country. This deal will provide news, sports, and music programming from big CBS stations to AOL, which includes WFAN-FM and 1010 WINS in New York and KROQ in Los Angeles.

Both companies agreed that CBS Radio would be taking over advertising sales. For AOL, the deal will replace an arrangement it has with XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.

CBS Radio plans to launch a new online radio player that incorporates the two companies' services and will also support Apple's Mac computers.

The partnership comes at a critical time for both companies. CBS Radio is trying to make a comeback after experiencing a decreasing profit for more than a year. On the other hand, AOL has been in the hot seat since its parent company, Time Warner, has debated whether to sale or split the business.

It was not revealed how the revenue would be divided between the companies.

The combined service is expected to go live this spring.
