Hardware compatibility was a major issue with Linux some years ago, but it's quite safe to say that we have gone past that point. Almost all major hardware components have Linux drivers available, and they can be used without much hassle. [I remember the days 4 years back when I had installed Red Hat 8.0 and it didn't recognized my monitor as well as sound card!] :)

However, some hardware producers have done a better job at supporting Linux now. If you are absolutely sure that your next PC will run Linux, a brief moment of planning ahead can earn you a very powerful system that runs like a charm. So lets build a Perfect Custom Linux PC. These hardware specifications are for Linux which are fairly popular.

.NET has been of Microsoft's flagships ever since its introduction a few years ago. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to know that several attempts at porting .Net tools to other platforms exist. Some efforts, like the GNU .NET have only had limited success. Others, however, had more – and Mono is one of them.

Mono is, in fact, several things. It is not only an implementation of the Common Language Infrastructure, but an entire array of software aiming to bring .NET services to Linux. Under its umbrella, Mono hosts IDEs like MonoDevelop, libraries like Gtk# and the associated documentation efforts.

Part of the difficulties most of us encounter when switching to a new operating system are related to applications. People tend to become very attached to the tools they use very often – and it's no surprise to find out that iTunes is one of the tools new Linux users miss most.

Actually, iTunes is so popular that several open-source alternatives have been developed, and used even by seasoned Unix users. It's these alternatives that we are going to talk about.

For some time now, I am working on Python and looking to learn Django Framework which seems to be awesome. Now since there is a framework, so of course there will be some intelligent people who have also come up with a CMS built on the Framework, so while searching for it, I found Ellington which is coming at whooping cost of (hold your breath..) $35,000 ! You can Check the pricing here.

Now they have not put any kind of demo on there site neither have put any kind of detailed documentation to help people to review the product. The only thing that you can do is mail them for details(which I did, though haven't got any response yet). I can see some good sites like http://www.lawrence.com/ and http://www2.ljworld.com/ are built on it but still with this cost, I don't know how they will be able to sell it to any smaller organization.

My first triumph with Open Source was during my first year of engineering when I wanted to install linux and someone gave me Mandrake CD's. I preferred mandrake over red hat at that time because I was able to play all my songs in it. Since than I have come a long way in using open source softwares and operating systems though I am just still a little better than a naive ubuntu user, I share the joy and of fun of using it will millions others :) Just in case if you were living in cave for the past 20 years, and have never heard of Open Source Movement or (most likely) not bothered about it, here are my little thoughts on it and why should you at least make an attempt to Make the switch to Open Source.

A person may decide to find open source alternatives for software as commercial software becomes more expensive and as the license agreements for software get more ridiculous. Making the switch to open source can be done successfully. There are many high quality open source programs available that compare to or even outdo the counterparts.
