Nokia turned a lot of heads at CES 2009 with its Nokia N97. The smartphone is part of the company's N series of multimedia computers and is being labeled the "world's most advanced mobile computer." This flagship product of Nokia's N series that is said to be designed for the "needs of Internet savvy customers" has a 3.5-inch touch display and a full QWERTY keyboard.
This phone brings out a new concept that Nokia calls "social location." In this video, Laura Mitchell of Nokia explains how the device is equipped with A-GPS sensors and an internal compass to allow users to find and share their own location, update their social networks, and share pictures and videos.

Many people lined up this morning for the launch of Apple's new iPhone. This new model updates the iPhone of last year by speeding up the Internet access and adding a navigation chip.
The new and improved iPhone is only $199 as opposed to the starting price last year of $599.

While Google has not yet released its Google Android or even its sales predictions for devices based on its mobile operating system, still a Google executive has already given the product an expectation to live up to.
After speaking at the Emerging Communications Conference in the Silican Valley, Rich Miner, Google’s Group Manager for Mobile Platforms, said Android-based sales devices would exceed that of sales of Apple’s iPhone.

Reports show that Apple plans on a restrictive policy for application development. According to iLounge, the iPhone SDK will limit what kinds of iPhone and iPod Touch applications can be developed, where they can be sold, and what types of peripheral devices they can access.
Since iTunes is the primary means for getting software updates onto or off of the iPhone, Apple would most likely, require all iPhone or iPod Touch applications to be sold through the iTunes store. Smaller developers would have an advantage of getting noticed as a result of the visibility of the iTunes store.
