On Wednesday, hackers were able to shut down Internet service provider Comcast for nearly five hours. The 14 million people that subscribe to Comcast were unable to access their email, news, or technical support from the company's website. Comcast was able to restore access to its site by early Thursday morning.
According to reports, the hackers gained access to Comcast's Internet registration account at Network Solutions and reconfigured the site's settings. When users tried to visit Comcast.net, they were redirected to an alternate website that said:

As strange as it sounds, Microsoft is offering cash rebates for people who make purchases after using its search engine. Sources say this move is part of Microsoft’s Plan C since Plan A and Plan B didn’t work.
Plan A consisted of Microsoft remaining solo in the search and advertising efforts. Plan B was purchasing Yahoo. Since Plans A and B haven’t worked, Microsoft felt it had no other choice but to try Plan C.

Search giants Yahoo and Google are continuing to talk about a search advertising partnership, but a deal is not coming immediately. Sources familiar with the potential deal have released this news.
Recent rumors have suggested that talks were off due to the fact that Microsoft withdrew its offer to purchase Yahoo. The sources who chose to remain anonymous said the deal between the two companies could come as early as next week, but there is not definite word.

MySpace announced yesterday that it is allowing its users to share content from their profiles with any other Web site. This is the first effort of MySpace to support the data portability movement. Up to this point, social networks such as MySpace have strictly enforced a “walled garden” approach in which users were essentially locked into their site.
MySpace has signed agreements with Yahoo, eBay, Photobucket, and Twitter thus far. In the next several weeks, MySpace users will have the ability to add their MySpace data to those sites by simply clicking a button.

EBay and Craigslist are at odds regarding the competition in the online classifieds market. Ebay purchased 28 percent of Craigslist back in 2004 from an unnamed former executive who solicited buyers, but hostility between the two companies has risen since then.
According to eBay’s complaint, which was made public this week, Craigslist considers eBay’s new site Kijiji a competitive activity that conflicts with eBay’s shareholder rights into Craigslist.
